Garage Door Insulation - How Important It Is09/17/2016 Back To Blog
A lot of individuals do not believe in insulating their garage doors. A building needs to be well insulated and your garage door is part of your home, it should not be given the cold shoulders.
Why You Should Insulate
One common importance of insulation is that it saves you the cost of heating and cooling. When a garage door is improperly insulated or not insulated at all, unwanted guests like moisture and critters will start to surface. Garage door insulation is highly advisable.
There are two parts of garages when it comes to residential neighborhoods, both require proper insulation.
Attached garages: this is when the garage is a part of the residence. It shares a wall with the house, and sometimes a ceiling as well. This means that just as you make sure your house is insulated, you should make sure your garage is as well. Attached garages share a similar temperature with the house they are connected to, thus creating a huge climatic difference between the garage door and the outside air. This difference in temperature will lead to formation of moisture; this is why insulating the door itself is a great solution.
Separated garages:just as its name suggests, this garage is completely separated from the residence. As it stands on its own, it will not share the same average temperature as your home. Even if you do install an air conditioner inside, without it being properly insulated the energy will be wasted, the bill will be higher, and you won't enjoy the temperature you are looking for. Here too, making sure the door is probably insulated is very important.
Can you insulate any door?
Yes. Steel doors, wooden doors, all doors can be professionally insulated using the right materials. If you are about to purchase a brand new door, make sure it comes fully insulated so you won't have to worry about the costs of insulating it later on. You also need to make sure the bottom rubber seal isn't worn, and if it is – have it replaced as soon as possible.
